This week I increased my walking distance to 1½ miles. I am walking a full lap before I have to sit on a bench to rest. The biggest thing holding me back is my breathing. There’s nothing wrong with my breathing, it’s just my lungs are at their capacity oxygenating all the blood that is circulating through this big body of mine. Also, my hip flexors are pretty much at their limit at the quarter mile mark and are ready to sit down and rest. I expect this to improve as I lose weight.
I missed 2 days of walking due to rain. I do have a back-up plan for weather. I have a walking DVD that my mom told me about. It’s a lot of walking in place and when you finish the routine you have walked the equivalent of a mile. My intention is to do this when the weather is bad, but I have yet to try it out. I don’t cotton the idea of walking inside. It might be time to start thinking of where I’m going to walk when the weather turns colder. I would prefer someplace with an indoor track vs a treadmill. Maybe the Y?
I have several pieces of equipment that I could work out on. A treadmill, but it is rated at 275lbs. A complete gym (similar to a total gym you see on TV), but it also is rated at 275lbs. A recumbent bike, which is rated at 300lbs (I just looked it up), but my belly is too big to ride that thing. I have to pedal spread eagle which just hurts my groin muscles to no end! I guess it’s a good thing I don’t ride it, since I exceed the weight limit! I would never have guessed that by looking at it.
I can definitely tell the day after a skip day. My stamina is down and I suck air like I’m running a mile! My goal is to walk every day and try to be consistent.
My weight is down 3lbs. I’m glad to see some progress in this area. I know I shouldn’t judge progress by the scale, but I didn’t take pictures and measurements when I started. In the future, I will record those when I start a new program.
My blood glucose was in the low 130’s until I tried having creamer in my coffee. That day it shot up to 153! I couldn’t believe it! That much of a response from drinking sugar free creamer. Now I have to consider dropping the creamer all together or just having it occasionally as a treat.
