About Me

Greetings!!

Where the magic happens….

My name is Kelly and I am the creator of Fat, Fat, the River Rat. I have been a Registered Nurse for the past 33 years and I am looking for ways to share my triumphs, as well as frustrations, with health and fitness.

One of my life long struggles has been with my weight. I blame this on the fact that after 10th grade, gym class was no longer required. I still had the appetite of a teenage boy, but no longer had to exercise. This started my push up the scales into the 200 lb range.

I joined the United States Air Force right after graduation. This helped me control my weight, as it was required and was always being monitored. After discharge though, the responsibility was all mine and my weight fluctuated for all of my adult life.

I have tried numerous diet and fitness programs over the years. Some have worked and some have not. Some I only tried for a few days and others I never started because I didn’t like what I discovered after researching them. This blog will be about my journey through the weight loss maze and my experiences along the way.

My writing style is a little unorthodox, as I write, pretty much how I talk. I will try to keep the language acceptable and at the most a PG-13 rating. My Grandma use to say that cursing was a sign of ignorance. She told me that you can have a degree and still sound uneducated by the choice of your words. Sometimes, I think that a curse word best expresses how I want to get my point across, but Opal, I’m going to behave for you! My writing may not be structurally correct, but remember I have a bachelors degree in science NOT English. When I took my college English class it was taught by a Filipino professor. English probably wasn’t his first language and he taught it more in functionality than per se, proper sentence structure.

As I finish this, the first writing for my blog, all I can say is thank God for computers and spell check!! This beats the heck out of a manual typewriter and erasable paper (I know, I’m showing my age).
