Today I went to see a dietitian to help me with better food choices and how to lower my carb intake. Yes, I’m a Registered Nurse and I have knowledge in this, but sometimes it’s a good idea to consult with a professional.
All started out well until after I left that appointment. You see, last week I went to a doctor’s appointment and in my house when you go to see the doctor, you are rewarded by going out to eat. I originally planned on going to Village Inn for breakfast, but I really wanted tacos. I went to Rudy’s for a taco salad. Unfortunately, when I plan to eat at one restaurant and end up going to another, my brain feels slighted and I crave my originally planned meal until I get it.
After my appointment, I decided to go to Village Inn for breakfast. I had to make up for that missed meal! I had the Country Music Star omelet that comes with hash browns and pancakes. Okay, that is a little more than I would normally eat for breakfast, but I am starting a new program and I deserved a send off meal right? How many “last suppers” have you had before starting a new diet? Breakfast wasn’t the only problem though. When I go to Village Inn, I generally take home a Lemon Supreme pie. Not a slice, a whole pie for desert over the next few days. I rationalize this in my mind by saying I won’t be eating lunch today and on this program, I’m not counting calories, just trying to cut down on the amount of food I am eating. Your brain doesn’t think right when your over weight.
So, did I skip lunch? Nooooo, I got hungry about 4:30pm and had 2 slices of my leftover thin crust pizza from yesterday, with a big glass of diet Pepsi. This isn’t anything I wouldn’t normally eat for lunch, except that pushed supper back. I had leftover spaghetti for supper and a slice of pie. By a slice I mean ¼ of the pie! But, I’m not counting calories right?
I didn’t finish eating until 9:30pm, so once again I missed my cut off time. When I started this program, I told myself I would not adjust my eating window. If I was late, I would just start at the scheduled time the next day. I don’t like to do this because it shortens my eating window and bunches my meals together. However, I decided to adjust the time because the magic doesn’t start until the 16th hour and if I was going to consistently miss it, I was probably wasting my time doing this program. Flexibility counts, but I will try to be more consistent in the future.
So, tomorrow I don’t start eating until 1:30pm. That gives me a 6 ½ hour eating window.
