Today I missed my walk because I slept in and had a family gathering at 11am (Happy Birthday Charleigh!!). I didn’t leave myself enough time to complete it, so I decided to do it later. Which essentially meant I was going to skip it.
We had lunch at Pizza Ranch, which when your dieting, probably isn’t the best place to go. For me, all you can eat buffets is probably never a good idea.
I remember sitting at the nurses station talking about buffets and how in my opinion, you should eat the most expensive food first (meats, etc) I mean, you want to get your moneys worth right? I’m not going to bother with the salad bar or bread as that will just fill me up and limit the amount of the good stuff I can eat. Not realizing one of the dietitians was sitting around the corner listening to all this, I was promptly corrected on how eating at a buffet should be done. Exactly, start with the salad bar, so you don’t over eat the higher calorie food.
So, new rules for eating out:
- Avoid buffets as much as possible. If you can’t, start with the salad bar and limit yourself to one plate of the other foods.
- When you go to a restaurant, look up the menu on their website and decide in advance what your going to eat. No perusing the menu, just place your order with no other decisions to be made.
- Another idea is to ask for a to go box in advance and place half the food in it first, then eat the rest. You can then take home the other half to eat later or give to the dog.
Needless to say, I ate way too much and felt bloated the rest of the day. One thing I like about this plan is the empty feeling when I get up in the morning. As long as I get my coffee and fluids, I can go quite a time without eating.
